drip irrigation

Drip Irrigation is a type of micro-irrigation system that has the potential to save water and nutrients by allowing water to drip slowly to the roots of plants. Drip irrigation lines can be placed either above the soil surface or buried below the surface. This is accomplished by distributing water through a network of valves, pipes, tubing and emitters. And, depending on how well designed, installed, maintained and operated it is, a drip irrigation system can be more efficient than other types of irrigation systems.

We live in an age where environmental concerns are at the top of everyone's priority list, with water conservation being tops. Drip irrigation is a fantastic way of saving water. Not only does it offer a 90% efficiency rate at allowing plants to use the water applied, studies have shown that good quality drip irrigation can save up to 30% more water. Benefits of drip irrigation also include reducing water runoff and evaporation loss since it applies the water slowly at the plant root zone, giving the soil plenty of opportunity to absorb and hold valuable water stores.

Although key, water conservation is not the only benefit of drip irrigation. Due to the fact that water is delivered directly to the plants you want to grow, less water is wasted on weeds. Less weeds in your garden means less time and money spent getting rid of those unwanted weeds. Now, who doesn't like that?
